Know your caloric intake:  Depending on your size you can figure this out.  Knowing your daily caloric needs gives you a very good advantage.  This will determine the amounts of calories (energy) your body needs on a daily basis to perform correctly.  The amount of calories is what makes you thin or fat.  Example: if you have a total amount of 2200/day then divide that by 6 and get 366 calories per meal.  Not many, but if you workout daily and burn 500 calories it leaves you with a 500 calorie deficit and this is fat loss. 

Eating the right foods:  Definitaly focus on whole foods.  Avoid procced foods if all posible.  Vegetables and lean meats only for the first couple weeks to balance out your blood ph.  After that you can implement, dairies, grains, and some milder fat foods.  Have 6 meals daily totals in a 3-4 hour spread.  This gives you a boost in metabolism that burns off calories automatically, see where this is going?  Make snacks for when you at work, find recipes online of low fat snacks.

Never skip meals, ever!: This is the challenge, skipping meals is very bad for your metabolism.  If you are serious about shredding pounds don't skip any meals at all. 

Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of pure water every day.  The more the merrier.  Water is a natural fat burner, so why not take advantage of it.
